Merry Christmas From The Drieses🎅How Are You Celebrating This Year?
It always amazes me how fast the holidays seem to come and go. I feel like we wait so long for this time of the year and then with a blink of an eye, we are preparing for Valentine’s Day.
This Christmas was a little different for us though, as I am sure it was for so many. We still tried to make it special by doing some fun activities with the children.
There are several things that I remember doing with my family as a kid so I wanted to continue some of those traditions as well as create some of my own.
We spent much of this month watching our favorite Christmas movies, baking cookies, drinking hot chocolate, and sitting by the campfire. I think we watched Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York every single day LOL. It definitely was one of my go-to Christmas movies as a child and the kids love the movie as much as I do.
I purchased the cutest Home Alone inspired dog toys for our puppy Akira. It came with three dog treats and two stuff animals. Each month BarkBox has the coolest dog supplies themed boxes. Traditionally, we have a game night with all of our family members, but because of the pandemic we were not able to do that. We did get together with our immediate family members to do a gift exchange. It was a different experience for us but we made the best of it.
While this pandemic has brought about many changes this year, I am grateful that we have been able to celebrate in the capacity that we did. While we have been merely inconvenienced, there are hundreds of thousands of homes with an empty seat at the dinner table this holiday season. Being in the house more with our immediate family has brought us all closer together. We have learned to entertain ourselves more within the home than ever before. Even when this pandemic is over, some of the things that we have started this year will carry on year over year and we will focus on our family in-home traditions as well as the typical, go see the mall Santa type stuff too. This year was different due to the pandemic. Normally all the family gathers together to play games and eat. I did enjoy the peace and tranquility. With six grandchildren, any time you find peace…enjoy it!
